Rudi Monastery is an important religious site in northern Republic of Moldova, set in a spectacular natural landscape on the banks of the Dniester River. The current stone church was built in 1777, with the blessing of Bishop Inochentie of Huși, on the estate of the brothers Andronachi and Teodor Rudea, with financial support from the merchant Donciul of Movilău. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the church was built in the traditional Moldavian architectural style, marked by simplicity and harmony. A well-known legend is linked to the monastery, according to which Moldavian ruler Grigore Ghica recovered his health here after being treated with grapes, fresh grape must, and aged wine. Grateful for his recovery and impressed by the tranquility of the place, the ruler later supported the construction of the monastery. Today, Rudi Monastery combines history, spirituality, and wine-related traditions in a remarkable natural setting.
The monastery is an active place of worship, so modest clothing is recommended. The visit can be combined with walks along the scenic Dniester area, known for its calm atmosphere and wide landscapes.
