Easter Holiday in Maramureș
Enrich your spirit and soul with a two-day excursion to the heart of Maramureș, where tradition harmoniously blends with nature and history. Embark on a unique journey aboard the Mocănița steam train through dreamy landscapes, visit Bârsana Monastery and Săpânța Peri Monastery, monuments of rare spiritual beauty, explore the natural magic of the Cailor Waterfall, and learn about history at the Memorial of the Victims of Communism and the Resistance. End your trip on a colorful and humorous note at the famous Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, where you will discover eternal life stories told through epitaphs full of humor and optimism.
Ride with the Mocănița → A steam train running on a narrow-gauge railway (760 mm) in the Vaser Valley, originally used for timber transport and now the last operational forest railway. The 21.5 km tourist route passes through picturesque landscapes, including traditional households and meadows, until reaching Paltin station, where tourists can enjoy a warm lunch and a program of Maramureș songs and dances, with the opportunity to join in the festivities.
Bârsana Monastery → Famous for its wooden Orthodox church, one of the tallest in Romania at nearly 57 meters, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims due to its traditional architecture, folk costumes, Maramureș-style carved gates, local cuisine, and a recently added museum.
Cailor Waterfall → The largest waterfall in Romania, located at 1,300 meters altitude, with a drop of 90 meters. The water collects in a glacial cirque and flows over a limestone cliff called Podul Cailor, forming multiple steps. The waterfall can be reached from several directions, including on foot from higher areas of the Rodna Mountains. If you prefer, you can descend from the top of the ski slope via a trail to reach the waterfall in about half an hour.
Săpânța Peri Monastery → Located in the middle of the “Livada” Dendrological Park, built in 1997, notable for its impressive 75-meter-high wooden church, ranking among the tallest wooden structures in Europe. The 7-meter-high gilded cross adds elegance and solemnity. Although recent, the monastery blends characteristic elements of Maramureș churches with unique architectural details, such as a five-sided porch and a three-level upper floor.
Merry Cemetery → A symbol of Maramureș and Romania, part of the world heritage, bringing Săpânța worldwide recognition. Beyond the beautifully carved and painted crosses, humorous texts describe the deceased’s life in an amusing way. In 1935, wood sculptor Stan Ioan Pătraș had the idea of creating a unique cemetery reflecting the life and personality of the deceased in a cheerful presentation, resulting in the Merry Cemetery of Săpânța. Over 800 hand-carved crosses can be admired in this open-air museum.

All trips organized in Romania are held in Romanian.

We cannot guarantee an exact seat number at the time of booking. Seat allocation is done transparently, based on the order of payment: the earlier you pay, the closer you will be seated to the front of the transport.
At booking, we can provide an approximate indication (“among the first seats,” “in the middle,” “after the middle,” “towards the back,” “last seats,” etc.).
Why can’t we specify the exact seat?
? We work with several transport companies, and the vehicles may vary from one trip to another.
? Each coach or minibus has its own seat numbering system.
At SICRO TRAVEL, we strictly follow one principle: seats are allocated exclusively according to the order of payment.
In most cases, we travel by modern coach when there are more than 20 confirmed participants.
For groups under 20 people, the trip is organized with a comfortable and spacious minibus, specially designed for international travel.
All vehicles are modern, equipped with air conditioning and luggage space.
