Hiking Tour to Giumălău Peak 1858 m • New Route 2.0
If you’re looking for a fresh experience on a route we haven’t taken before, we invite you to a memorable hike in the Rarău–Giumălău Massif — one of the most beautiful and wild mountain areas of Bucovina. Regardless of the season, this massif impresses with its diverse landscapes, peaceful forests, and wide panoramic views opening toward the surrounding ridges.
The trail is suitable for hikers with a moderate fitness level, seeking an authentic adventure on a less-traveled but safe and spectacular route, guided by a certified mountain guide.
Giumălău Peak (1858 m)
At 1858 m altitude, Giumălău is one of the emblematic peaks of the Eastern Carpathians. The trail passes through Poiana Strungii, Poiana Sapele and Alunu Peak, combining forest paths, open meadows and panoramic viewpoints.
At the summit, we enjoy a 360° panorama over the Rarău Massif, Pietrele Doamnei, the Bucovina ridges and the Călimani Mountains — one of the most impressive viewpoints in the region.
📏 Estimated trail time:
7 – 7.5 hours (including the ascent and descent to the TransRarău road)
Moara Dracului Gorge
On the second day, we explore Moara Dracului Gorge — a narrow canyon with steep rock walls, dramatic scenery and a unique natural character. It’s an excellent place for photography, active relaxation and connecting with nature.
Ciobanului Saddle and Rarău Peak
We continue toward Ciobanului Saddle — an open area with superb views — and then climb Rarău Peak, which offers an impressive panorama of the famous Pietrele Doamnei rock formations.
📏 Day 2 duration:
approximately 5 – 6 hours, depending on the group’s pace and trail conditions.
The route ends at Hotel Alpin Rarău, where the minibus picks us up. Before returning, we stop for a traditional lunch at the Pojorâta Trout Farm — the perfect ending to an active weekend in the Bucovina mountains.
